Dogs & Families

How many dogs can I bring?

Up to two well-behaved dogs. Please bring your own dog bedding and towels if needed.

No, we don’t have restrictions, but we do ask that dogs are well-behaved, house-trained, and not left unattended.

We leave out a few basics, dog bowls, waste bags, and a towel for muddy paws. There’s also a guide to local dog-friendly pubs and walks.

Yes, loads! The Cleveland Way, Cinder Track, and other footpaths are all accessible from the village. There are some short walks direct from the property for them early morning walkies.

Many local beaches welcome dogs, Cayton Bay, Sandsend, and Robin Hood’s Bay are good all-year-round options. North and South Bay in Scarborough have seasonal restrictions.

Yes, The Plough, The Nags Head, The Yew Tree Café and several others nearby are all happy to welcome dogs.

Yes. We regularly welcome families with little ones and do our best to make things easy.

There are board games and books for all ages, plus a Smart TV in the games room and lounge.

We can provide a travel cot and high chair, just let us know when booking and we’ll have them ready for you.

Location & Local Area

How far is Scarborough, Whitby and Filey?

Scarborough is about 5 minutes by car. You can also walk or cycle in along the Cinder Track. Whitby is about 30 minute’s drive up the coast perfect for a day out. And Filey is about the same drive down the coast.

Beaches, woodlands, family attractions, pubs, cafés, walking routes, it’s all within easy reach. See our “Out & About” page for ideas.

It’s possible, North Bay is about 40 minutes to an hour on foot via the Cinder Track or other walking routes.

There are local buses from Scalby into Scarborough, and taxis are readily available. The bus stops only moment sup the road from the property. Scarborough train station is a short drive away.

Yes, there’s a village shop in Scalby (10 minutes’ walk) and several larger supermarkets in Scarborough.

You can grab essentials from the village shop, the local supermarket, Proudfoot in Newby, or head into Scarborough for bigger shops like Tesco, Sainsbury’s, or Lidl.

Yes, a mix of fish & chips, Indian, Chinese, and pizza, all available for delivery or collection.

Very. The house is on a quiet lane with little traffic. Evenings are calm and peaceful, you might hear owls or the occasional pheasant.

How do I book?

Yes, we take a 15% deposit to secure your booking. The full amount is due 30 days before your stay.

We offer a fair cancellation policy, details are shown at the time of booking. If you have questions, just ask.

Check-in is from 3pm. Check-out is by 10am.

Sometimes. Let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Yes, typically 2 nights, but it may vary at peak times.

We do, especially for midweek bookings, repeat guests, or longer visits. Get in touch for a quote.

There’s central heating throughout the house, plus an open fire in the lounge if you fancy something cosier.

Yes, an open fire in the main living room, perfect for colder evenings.

No. The Firs is strictly non-smoking indoors.

Yes, we regularly host contractors, tradespeople, and professionals working in the area.

Of course. We offer flexible check-in/check-out and peaceful surroundings to help you rest between shifts.

Yes, everything is included. High-speed Wi-Fi, electricity, heating, water,  no hidden extras.

We have a secure driveway and enclosed garden, ideal for vans. Let us know if you need extra storage.

Of course, we’re happy to invoice for business stays or provide receipts if needed.

Yes, we have a large private driveway that can comfortably accommodate up to 4 vehicles, including vans or small work trucks.

Absolutely. We offer flexible stays including Monday–Friday bookings, weekly rates, or longer-term arrangements depending on your needs.

Yes,  the property has a large, fully equipped kitchen with a range cooker, dishwasher, coffee machine, and all the essentials for cooking.
